    Question Duracoat?

What's the scoop on products like Duracoat for Colt Ars? Is this a good idea? DO you coat just internal moving parts? Would you use it on a new AR or wait? DOn't know much about these products.

    Red face Coatings

Sac, Colt's have a higher value then other brand AR's. So if you use a Duracoat finish it could hurt the carbine/rifle value. Duracoat is a strong finish that will last for a long time. You may want to coat just the stock, pistol grip
and handguards. This way these parts can be changed out a later time. Read up on refinishing and this may work for you. Check out these site.

    Good luck, Mark

    Duracoat

I've had some success with re-finishing using Duracoat products. Just be sure to follow the instructions and use good equipment. Haven't done an AR, but have done parts and a couple of handguns. I airbrushed this GI 1911 to look like parkerized. Before anyone gets upset, this gun was a mess - bad nickel finish, rust and pitting - so I didn't mind making a project out of it...

You normally DON'T coat internal parts.
Duracoat is intended for external coating. Its tough, durable, and chip resistant, but moving parts will wear it off rather quickly.

I' also say you did a nice job on it. I had one that was old and the finish was done, if I still had it, I'd be inclined to use the product as well.

Here's a Colt MT6400C lower I had done in Colt Gray...

The upper is a 6520 barrel and an M16A1 receiver. As you can see, the color better matches the barrel than the receiver.
