    AR-15 question

Hey guys, im in the market for an AR and i have decided on a colt but im not quite clear on the differences between the LE models and the MT models. I want a longer barrel than the LE offers so thats why im looking to the MT but i was curious if they are still supposed to be built with the same quality parts as the LE. Thanks

The commercial Colt AR's are the same length as the Law Enforcement models...20" for the rifle and 16" for the Carbines and one MT model with a 24" barrel.

The Law Enforcement models are built to the same standards as military contract rifles, and the commercial rifles use the same general parts, since it'd actually cost more to make lesser quality parts.

The LE models are assembled to a higher standard, given that they are intended for use by law enforcement and HAVE to work properly right out of the box.

The big difference is, the LE AR's are made with straight military designs (minus the full auto) and the commercial models have some changes to prevent them from being easily converted to full-auto.
The MT versions use a different bolt carrier, larger trigger group pins, etc.

Depending on what you want and what you're going to use it for, the LE is usually considered to be the best.
If you're using it for formal target shooting, the commercial MT is probably the right choice.

Dfariswheel, thanks. It will be used for predator/varmit hunting mostly and targeting on occasion. I didnt see any 20" models on the LE site, only on the commercial site but i may have over looked them.

I really am liking a couple of the MT models but honestly, i was going to go to bushmaster or somthing cheaper like that if the commercial Colts' were not of the same quality as LE. Sounds like they still carry Colts solid reputation from what you said.

Im looking hard at the one with the 24" ss barrel.

I just noticed the accurized rifle with the 24" ss barrel is also listed on the Colt LE web site as well as the commercial site. Does that mean that it is considered as a LE model?

The MT won't be made the same way the LE is even though the look similar.

All the MT versions are made with the over-sized hammer-trigger pins, the altered bolt carrier and other commercial alterations.

The LE models are all made to the military design, without the full-auto. I'd assume the LE model will have some features the MT version won't, like a better trigger unit, etc.

The LE model is likely intended to be a SWAT sniper rifle.

The part# and specs are identical on both sites. I dont know if they are different or not. I can tell the difference easily between all other models. Is a civilian, such as myself, able to purchase an LE AR-15?

I work for a police distributor company, and we have a law enforcement contract with Colt. Civilians CAN buy the LE rifles.
    Stay safe,

    Thanks,

    T.J.

the MT6700 is a ban compliant version of the M16A4 but with a HBAR and a 1/9 twist

and civy colt rifles are put together with the same quality as the LE line, why that was stated I have no idea. but its not correct

if you live in a state with no ban LE rifels are perfectly legal. if you call colt they will even send you a list of places that sell the LE line to help you find one to buy
