Colt Green Label A2 Sporter II Questions

Hi, I have a person who wants to sell me a Colt R-6500 Green Label A2 Sporter II from 1985-1986 in Unfired Condition. It does not include the original box. I have looked at biggerhammer, but I need some help from the Experts here!

What is this gun worth? I know it's old school, but is it worth it?

Or, should I just get the Colt 6920 instead?

    Please give me some suggestions.

    Thank You, & Great Site

I just done some fast look up on the gun, and it seems to be a the(like I am into) just dont have the H-bar.

    R6500 AR15a2, 20" standard, 1in7 twist, a2 birdcage, bayo lug

I also done a fast look up of th price and seems like a good used one is going from $900.00 to $1100.00 I also seen a New with no box for $1900.00

Now if it was me, and could get a sweet deal on the R6500 I would go that way. I do like the 6920 guns, but I like the old pre 89 guns a lot more.

I had a guy telling me that my SP-1 serial No. 28XXX was a "green label" AR 15 and worth more because it could be converted to fully automatic operation. I never saw the box on my rifle which was purchased used in the late 1980s.

I don't want a fully automatic AR 15 and didn't know that one could convert certain rifles legally. Did he have a hole in his head?

From what I can tell, all SP1 Colts are a Green Label guns. They can take a RDAS (Auto Sear). You can also use lighting links to go auto with it was well. They do not work as good as a auto sear. The Sears and links got to be made before May 19, 1986 and have the $200.00 tax stamp on it.

Went and looked at the Colt yesterday. Looks very clean and nice!! The person wants $1350.00 for it. Is this a fair price? Hmmmmm What to do... I like it, but dont wanna get shafted by the price. Is this price reasonable?

    Thanks,

It done seem to be a bad price, not seeing how it looks. Now if it is like new I would say that is a good price.
    here are a few pro's and con's

    Pro's
    Pre 89.
    No Sear Block. (Green Label)
    Colt!!
    AR15 A2.

    Con's
    A1 upper
    A1 sights.
I do know a few guys do like the A1 uppers but its not my cup of tea.

I still do not 100% understand why Colt made this gun a AR-15A2, but they put the A1 upper and sight on it.

Now here is where I got some of my info from.

    http://www.biggerhammer.net/ar15/variants/

Now I did look some for ones for sale I did see one and they have $1900.00 on it. It looks as good as you say this one is. Good luck. JB
