    Colt 6450

I have an opportunity to purchase a police trade 6450. 2005 manufacture date (according to the armorer). Does anyone have one..what do you think?

I know..why do you want a 9mm carbine in the AR platform. Same reason as owning a 70 series NMGC and a O1918 in the 1911. I've got a Bushy in 5.56, but it's not a Colt...and the 9mm sounds kinda fun.

PS: I've been a member since May 09 and lurked here years before....and just realized this is my 1st post....sorry, not much of a talker. Kevin

    6450 Colt

I have a 6450 and can attest to the "fun" factor 100%.
I get by without hearing protection using it due to the low noise factor.
With the telescoping factory stock it is a wonderful training rifle for kids and smaller stature adults. The very low recoil is a bonus also.
I'm inclined to think that due to the longer barrel it improves the 9mm round over a short barrelled handgun too.
Does it have any real world use? I'm not sure that it really has to. It's a FUN GUN.

Keep in mind when purchasing it that Colt AR prices are very low right now.
New model 6450s can be had at approx. $1150.00 so a clean used model should be a couple of hundred bucks cheaper.
Also, those 32 round mags, are still very pricey. Try to get a few tossed in for free.

    Get you one....You'll love it.

    Hawg,
Thanks for the info. Will come with (2) 32 rnd Colt mags and (1) 20 rnd. I'm told it will be a patrol car gun (as opposed to range gun) that may be a little banged up, but have a low round count. Don't tell anyone...but the cost will about half of the number you quoted above....thus, my excitement. Kevin

That's the LEO price, and I'm not a Leo. I can get the hook-up, but don't want to push my luck.

Why do we press harder on the buttons of a remote control when we know the batteries are dead?

    New guy

Hi, I'm not sure where to start but I have a 6450 question. How long has Colt offered this model? Were they available prior to 1986? Thanks for any info.

    Welcome mgbug

Can't recall the exact year but early 80s there was a run of SP model ARs in 9mm.
There were M16-A2s in 9mm also.
Don't know when the first production 6450s started.
Maybe some of the real Colt gurus will be along shortly.

i just picked up a new 6450 from Clyde Armory in GA.......a little over $1200 out the door. It came with a cleaning setup for the carbine and two 32 round mags. I bought 6 extra Colt mags as they had just got a shipment in. So far I love it.

Colt 6450 With EOTech Holographic Sight

Bought mine new. A pleasure to shoot. VERY accurate at 50 yards. Displaced my Sig P226 as my favorite 9mm "shooter." Added a cantilevered scope base for EOTech holographic sight with quick release base. GREAT setup. Everyone I've let shoot it wants one. My oldest son can shoot 2 inch groups at 50 yards with Winchester target ammo all day long. Get one. You'll love it.
