    Colt SP1 rifle

I bought a Colt SP1 rifle from a friend that lives on another state, based on the serial number the rifle was made in 1967, I own two other colt AR rifles but both are of the latest A2 configuration.
The rifle is in transit and expected to arrive at my FFL on May 25th, needless to say I am very exciting and can't wait to get it.
I will post pictures of it when it arrives.
When it comes to AR's nothing beats a colt.

I like the original SP1s, they were light and fast handling not like now where you have to hang everything off it. Great rifle, enjoy.

Watch out for that one post on the net about serial numbers on the Colt SP1's. I used it for dating mine and it came back as a 1969 and it was actualy a 1980 since I found out they didn't make the carbines in the SP1 till the late 70s. I had Colt themselves date it and they said it was made January of 1980. Coincidentally, my b day is January! I love the gun, see my post of Well I think it's a colt long gun and see the pics. It is New in box never fired well....till this coming weekend!

I feel for ya. Last time I had a gun sent, and it was my Python sent back from Colt, they held it for Saturday thru Tuesday HERE at the depot because they screwed up some information somewhere! I had to sit here KNOWING it was in town but couldn't go pick it up! The other thing they did, well a big part of it was the FFL, I had a gun sent to my FFL and they took a WEEK to sign it in and call me after I saw it had arrived and been signed for from UPS.

Is yours a rifle or carbine? BTW a great place to go for info on the vintage AR15s is

    http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=3&f=123

That is where I found out that list I posted was wrong for the Carbines, or so they told me there. I ended up calling Colt with the serial number and it was different than what they told me on AR15.com as well. Mine was made in Jan of 1980 and AR15 said 1986 and the list had it at 1970.

Amen! The SP-1 is the best way to enjoy the AR 15. I don't want baggage on my rifle.

My wife showing all and sundry how to irrigate the landscape while shooting a gallon water filled milk jug last summer with my 1972 SP-1.
