Might want to check sold AR's in Gunbroker.
I'm trying to determine the market value on a Pre Ban Model R6530 Light weight sporter.
Any thoughts as to value?
Might want to check sold AR's in Gunbroker.

KS's post is a good place to start. Many regional variations. Also you don't mention condition, box, papers, accessories, etc.. Price range of 500-1000 is a ball park.

You do what you are
Something to consider, 'Pre ban' means nothing to most AR owners in free states. However in states with their own non expiring AWB that have 'grandfathered' 'pre ban guns' with the evil features, a 'pre ban' can be worth a premium. As noted, check the auction sites and do a search on www.AR15.com .
Also, try m4carbine.com. Less noise to info ratio than the other site.
Pre-Ban often DOES mean something. It may mean that the rifle has a bayonet lug. It may mean that the gun does not have a sear block. It may mean that the rifle has a flash hider.
The actual AR-15 was discontinued in 1985, and was followed by the AR-15A2. All "real" AR-15 rifles therefore are by definition "Pre-Ban." It is the AR-15A2 that can have various combinations of features so the exact age of the AR-15A2 is very important in determining just what factory features a particular rifle will have.
This is another place where correct nomenclature is very important.
