    Replacing stock with collapsible?

I have a buddy who owns a Colt AR-15 Match Target HBARColt AR-15 wants to be able to let his kids shoot it. Can you replace the factory stock to a collapsable one?

If it has a carbine-length gas system that will be no problem. A standard M4 style collapsible stock assembly will work. You can purchase Colt brand parts to perform the conversion at http://www.specializedarmament.com/c...Parts-4-0.html

If it has a rifle-length gas system the standard M4 stock won't work. However, Vltor and the USMC worked together on the A5 stock- a 7 position collapsible stock for the full length M16. This stock should work perfectly if you're running a rifle-length gas system. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Vltor...a5%20black.htm

I put a 6 position Rock River on my full size HBAR with no problem.

Sorry for the confusion. Please let me re-phrase what I said.

When the Corps was looking for a collapsible stock solution for the M16A4 they tested A4 upper on M4 lowers and found that it did not meet their reliability standards. This is why they began developing the A5 stock assembly. Read the 3rd paragraph in this link.

    http://militarymorons.com/weapons/ar.furniture2.html#a5

However, I do know that the Colt Canada C7 (http://www.coltcanada.com/c7-page.htm) runs a 20in upper on a carbine lower, so apparently it meets the Canadian military's reliability standards. I believe, however, that the C7 utilizes an H2 buffer as opposed to a carbine buffer or a standard H buffer.

Stronghorn, thank you for pointing out my mistake.

OP, it seems that you and your friend may need to do some research into and comparison of Canada's and the USMC's reliabilty standards. IF the A5 is more reliable than the carbine lower w/H2 buffer you can then determine if that added reliabilty outweighs any added cost of the A5. Just don't let him throw some turd brand stock assembly on his rifle

I have a similar question. I have the standard M16 22 rifle with a blow back system, so can I remove my original A2 style butt stock and place a Swiss style swing stock on her?

there are no spring components or tube system in the stock, it is just empty.
