Any idea what this might be

I received a rifle from my uncle that passed. I thought it might be from the war, he was 80. There are no marking on the rifle, I took off the barrel and found a B and and I on the underside. Looks all original but a little worn, I think it's a 22 lr. Is this just an old rifle? Any Ideas?

I'm fairly sure it's an old model of Mossberg .22 Target rifle.
It has that plastic Mossberg type trigger guard with the finger grooves.

Which model I'm not sure, possibly a Model 44 US military trainer type.

I don't find any info on an MB version.

These were known as the Mossberg 42 "Targo" dual-purpose gun.
They were set up to shoot both .22 shot cartridges and .22 rifle rounds.
Various models were threaded internally or externally for attaching rifled or smooth bore muzzle attachments.
Mossberg also made a range of accessories such a muzzle mounted miniature clay target launcher, various target carriers and clay targets, hard rubber practice targets, and a target catching net.

    The various models were the 26-T, 42T, 42TR, B427, 320TR, and the 340TR.
Most were made in the 1940's, but the 320TR and the 340TR were made in 1961 and 62.

The Model 42 versions run from a low of $175 for one in 60% original condition to a high of $500 for one in 100%.

Yup, it's a Mossberg. I learned to shoot rifles for junior NRA qualifications with one of these. Brings back memories.
