Need a bit of help identifying and locating a ar15 part.

Hi, I'm new to the AR world. A friend of mine had an AR-15 for sale, so I told him to bring it in. I knew nothing about an AR then, and not much more now. I've been glued to my computer researching since I bought it trying to learn more. My friend told me he bought it from his friend and he said it was supposed to be worth more $$, but didn't remember why. Without looking at it I offered him $825.00 because I wanted an Ar for some time and that seemed to be a fair price.
So the gun is a Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter HBAR in pretty good shape. The stock has quite a bit of wear though.I called colt and they said it was made in 1984.
I posted this picture on a local car forum and someone pointed out it was a Delta edition. It has the Delta logos on grip, and came with the tasco rubberized 3-9 scope and colt carry handle mount. The scope is not mounted to the rifle at this time.I see the value of a pristine full package delta is worth some good $$, but mine is not complete. The wear on the stock looks like where the delta cheekpiece would been if it was still on it. I have been to two gun shops trying to figure how to mount the scope to the handle using the factory parts that I have. The Tasco scope has the Picatinny rail screwed on and the Colt carry handle mount is screwed on to the rifle.I can not find or figure out the way the two are joined together. When looking at other pictures it appears there are some type of thumbscrew clamps that join them.
I have found an original colt cheek piece and added that since the pix were taken. The clamps picture were sent to me from a friend ,how his came from colt.

    Here's the rifle

Here's the clamps that hold the scope rail to arms mount. I CAN NOT FIND THEM

    Other side of clamps

I've tried 4 gun shops and specialized armament with no luck.
I will most likely install a red dot, but would like to have most of the original parts as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jay

    What you are missing-2 items

Since you found the cheek piece, then you are missing the black leather "Colt" marked sling. These show up from time to time on ebay. I bought one for my Colt light rifle.

You are also missing the aluminum case. I have one of those also. Mine has the label on it and it was for serial number SP235530. If this is your gun, lets "talk". For whats its worth, the aluminum case is only one-side and in my view not the quality of case this weapon should have come with but I guess it does its job of protecting the contents.

The tasco scope was unique to this weapon. Its intergal mount works with any weaver base and elimiates the rings. Most likely it will keeps its zero when it is removed and then installed again. I have never seen that scope on anything other than the Colt Delta rifle. In the past, Colt has had other scope companies such as Leopold, Burris and C-More mark the scopes "Colt" but did not mark this scope Colt. Tasco did offer that scope without its intergal mount for about $100 a few years ago. I have one and it takes 30mm weaver type rings.

Nice gun and good luck with your quest. You bought it for a bargain. If you really want a red-dot for it, try to find the "Colt" marked C-more sights. Yours with the non-removable carry handle would take the scout sight.

I don"t really care if I have everything that came with it, but I would like to find the pieces to mount the original scope if possible.
I've been thinking about putting a scope back on instead of the red dot. Not sure yet, not sure of the role of this rifle yet in my collection.

The cheek piece requires you to remove the buttstock to mount. What the cheek piece does it is to move your head higher to align with the scope mounted on the carry handle. Its kind of hard to explain until you try it. On AR's with a flattop (no carry handle) a cheek piece is not required. To mount the scope only requires you to tighten down the center nut and make sure the side mounts are snug. The combination of the cheekpiece, rubber mounted scope and HBar barrel makes for a very nice shooting package. Once you sight in the gun, no soda can is safe at 100 yards. Lets us know when you try it out. And even though the 1/7 twist was made for the 62 grain bullet and tracer, it shoots the often less expensive 55 grain bullets very well.
