selling 1883 colt hammerless double 10 gauge

Hi ,I am looking to sell my colt 10 gauge,,,it is in very nice condition,I am no expert on antique guns but I have a few and have some idea what to look for, although I do question whether the stock is orignal or not,,it looks correct from pictures I have seen but I have never seen another one up close so I am not sure..Anyhow, it is a model 1883,the Damascus paterning is nice the bead sights front and rear are there,,ivory??,,I dont know,,the action is solid and although I have never fired it I belive it to be in perfect working order (I have been to cheap to order the shells),,it has been in my gun cabnet for around 20 years and I belive it is time for somone with more experince with the gun to enjoy it,,,on the bottom it is stamped sept 19th 1882,,and the serial # is 2300 on the trigger gaurd,,,,so Im sure you are thinking why did you not post some pictures dumb a$$,,well I forgot to take them this morning before comming into my office,,,,and will gladly post some if anyone is interested,,,,I may need some help on how to do that though for I have never sold anything online before,,,so if someone is iterested in buying or just giving me some advice on how to not get screwed,,,(I will ask a fair price and will accept a fair offer) please respond. Thanks

I have 2 of these in 12 gauge

when you post a pic, I will give you my opinion on originality. 20 years ago, no one was reproducing the stock for these as now.

Thanks Hillbilly it is a nice gun and even looks better then the pictures,,,,price is my problem,I have no idea what to ask for it,,I have seen a few 12 gauges priced but I do not know if this gun is worth more because it is a 10 gauge,,,or even how to judge its condition by the % scale,,,I would say it is 85% but I am not an expert,,,because of its age it may be considered a higher % or not I dont know,,,as I said before I believe it is in perfect shooting condition and if I had the correct shells I would have no worries about firing it (dont tell me where to get them because if I were able to get shells easly in my area I would not want to sell the gun).I am not one of those guys who thinks he has the worlds rarest object and expect to retire from its sale,,but because I have had the gun for 20 years I just want to feal comfortable that I have gotten a fair price for it.

odpb,--- Just a thought before selling your 1883.
These Shotguns were "Mostly" special order guns, & a large percentage of the total production were sent to notable, or prominent people of the time, (In your case 1887.)
I would consider getting a Factory Letter on this item before selling it.

The price could be greatly influenced by where, or to whom it was shipped.

Your gun is in about average condition for these. The buttstock has either been sanded or replaced. I believe it was replaced as all I have seen from the factory guns have had checkering on them and its not rare to have them break due to weakness of the wood over the years. The increase recoil of the 10 gauge would be harder on the buttstock. The 10 and 12 gauge guns go for the same amount as the 12 gauge guns are easier to load low pressure shells and shoot. Of course you can do that with the 10 gauge but it takes more effort. If you can send better pics of the barrels to show the pattern that helps them sell. Right now you maybe have a $1000 gun because of the buttstock. The buttstock and buttplates are being reproduced but its not cheap to have quality work done.
