Colt Lightweight Sporter 7.62X39mm

I've been looking for information on these rifles such as when they were manufactured, serial number range in relation to year of manufacture, any different models with varying barrels length and uppers and how many were manufactured. I bought one last week from a dealer for $1000.00 out the door. At first I thought the rifle was new because of the condition but now realize they're out of production. Any info would be appreciated....thanks.
