NEW 6940 and need some pointers

I just purchased a brand new 6940 for about $1500. Should be arriving at the gun store from Colt by mid April. Looking to Magpul it up. Anyone have any other companies they would suggest that are better than Magpul? This is my first long gun and need some pointers. Thanks for all help given.

Better than Magpul for what? Magpul makes the best magazines. What other parts are you interested in?

Mainly the stock because I was told it had alittle bit of play in it. Replacing the back up sights to magpul. A vertical grip. And the original furniture kit for it in OD green. Pretty much going all out in Magpul besides a surefire light, and EOTech red dot,

This will show you how new I am to all this but oh well. I guess you have to learn some how, right? haha..... Can a featherlight barrel which is available for the .223 Remington but installedon the 6940 since it can fire 5.56 and .223?

.223 and 5.56 chambers are not the same. 5.56 can safely handle higher pressure military loads. Ok to shoot .223 in a 5.56 but, not necessarily safe to shoot 5.56 in a .223.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy anything for it until I had spent quite a bit of time reading m4carbine.net. Otherwise, it is guaranteed that you will waste money.

Which EOTech? Anything but the new XPS and EXPS lines are problematic. Have you seen the Aimpoint T-1?

If you have never heard of Aimpoint, you should not buy anything until you study up on the available options.

Aimpoint has a much better reputation than EOTech. Battery life is measured in years and it is much more rugged than EOTech. The new XPS and EXPS lines look promising, but are not proven yet.

Why don't you invest in some range ammo and maybe a training class? Shoot the gun for a while and then decide what you need to replace on it. Congrats on the new carbine! I'll be expecting some pics once it arrives

Thanks for the tips everyone. I live in the country in Kansas, so I just can step out my front door and shoot. But I will do that. There are some gun stores/ ranges in Wichita and Topeka. Its a few hour drive to both but it is a good idea to help me get a better understand. I will read up on it all with the links sent and more. I will be sure to get some pictures on here for sure.
