    Colt 1855 Revolving Rifle

Not often seen, this one is in nice condition with about 50% original finish.

I saw a John Wayne movie the other night with I believe it was Robert Mitchum and Gabby Hayes and Gabby was holding what looked to be this model of rifle?

What was the title of this movie?
Who's the idiot that sold-off New-Amsterdam? I could have been reading this board in Dutch!

Heck if I know! I just was flipping through the channels and watched it for a couple of minutes. I think I saw Ed Asner as a bad guy who they had in jail and John Wayne had some kind of illness (stroke I figured) and they got the drop on Wayne and captured him and used him as a hostage trade to get Ed Asner out of the jail.

    I remember seeing Gabby with a Colt's '55 too.

Sam really believed in these, strange, because they sold poorly. Neat gun!

rhmc24: Beautiful rifle. Wish my collection could ever hope to contain a rifle like this. Started abit too late and close to retirement I guess. Thanks for posting, a pleasure to at least look at.

Thanks, I traded a pair of flintlock pistols for it about 10 years ago. I had a carbine about 25 years ago and sorry I let it get away. This is its replacement.

Movie was ElDorado. Pretty much a remake of Rio Bravo. Same basic plots with John Wayne, a drunk, and an old man fighting the badguys.

Old man in Eldorado (Bull) was Arthur Honeycutt. Old man in Rio Bravo (Stumpy) was Walter Brennan.

What's the approximate weight of the gun? Sure looks like there's a lot of metal there.

I never thought of its weight other than the type started out as a military but his one is sporting (no US marks). They were said to be unpopular by the troops. Colt tried hard to sell them, made various types and bores from pistol to 10 gauge shotguns. Hope this helps.

Here is my 12 ga. shotgun (revolves and cocks with underlever) that weighs about a pound more than my old Win 1897 12 ga. I don't trust my spring scale but the difference in weight is probably not far off. I didn't do anything to minimize weight making it. The Colt shows a lot of weight trimming effort.
