    Smile AR15-A2 Govt.Model need info

I got a ar15 in a trade some years ago and wondering when it was made The specs are--------Receiver marked--AR15-A2 Govt. Model Cal .223 Ser. GS00841. the barrel is marked O NP 5.56 Nato 1/7. This rifle has a light grey park smooth finish. There is no bayonet lug. It came with an aluminum mag(same finish as rifle)marked Parsons Precision Products Parsons ks. usa. It has a heavier barrel than my FAL. I can't remember exactly what year it was that I traded a Rem 870 for the AR15. I'm thinking late eighties or early 90s. Does any one know when it was made. It is in very good condition and fired very little.---- Mayber a ball park value? Thanks for your help.

does it have a sear block?

thats inside the lower that blocks the safety pivot and says Colt...

if so definitely late 80s (im thinking 89? maybe even 90-ish)...

shortly after that they changed the name to sporter...

of course others will have more information that is probably more correct...

ltdave This has no sear block. I found some specs on the gov't model A2 and looks to be a model 6550 and should have a bayo lug but mine doesn't. Sorry about no pics but I can't seem to get the pics posted. A friend said it was pre 1989 but who knows. Is it legal to own this without the sear block as I am giving it to my son. Thanks for your help
