Model # not on the rifle

    Hi guys,

I don't seem to be able to find the model # engraved on my LE6920. Any idea how to tell the models apart?

Got some Lake City SS109 ... will be hitting the range to find how this puppy performs. Have not touched an AR15 for more than 20 years ... it feels like an old friend.

    Thanks,
    Art

That's just some of them off the top of my head. Maybe others will chime in with some more. Congrats on your new rifle. We expect a full range report complete with pictures and videos

    Thanks for the info.
I have also called and talked with Colt and they confirmed model # is not engraved.

Dropped by range to sight the rifle with original iron sight. Took a while to realize that the horizontally positioned wheel was for elevation. Couldn't make out wheel thingy from the manual. I think the manual needs to be updated for the LE model.
Anyway, it is sighted now at 25 yds and I am getting 1/2" groups with some overlapping holes.

Shot about 50+ Lake City SS109. Nothing unusual to report. It performed well in terms of feeding and extracting, it is a smooth machine. There was one SS109 round which did not go off and I thot it was a dud. Waited for 30secs and nothing happened. I manually ejected it and see a really fainted dent on the cartridge. May be I did not feed it in correctly. So, I put it into the mag and re-chambered it and this time it left the barrel.

Like I said, I have not shot an AR15 for more than 20 years. Kinda forgot about the loudness due to the muzzle break. I think with the muzzle break, the sound level is either identical or slightly higher than my Remington 700 varmint style (with HB) 308win.

The weight, though, is definitely a tactical-action rifle. It is so light compared to my Rem700. It is a nice change. For medium range and close range encounters, this is a sweet weapon.

One thing I realized after this sighting session is that I am no longer used to a rifle butt without a rubber recoil pad. Yes, I am getting soft. It was quite raw absorbing the recoil with that hard polymer butt. So, I ordered a rubber pad.

My next step is to sight it at 50 yds. I will remember to take some pictures of those and show you guys with the rifle.

So far, so good. I am impressed with this rifle. They have certainly improved on lightening it and accuracy. I did not remember me having a 1/2" group when I was using an early version of the M16A1 (?) years ago.
