    Colt Lightning Rifle, opinion

    Hello Everyone,

Thinking about a purchase of the following item and wanted to get the opinions of some of the experts on the forum. Looking at a Colt Lightning 32-20 with what I am finding out is an unusual length barrell of 30". It also has an unusual peep site which I think maybe a Redfield. As you can see by the pictures the rifle is a little worse for wear on the exterior with signs of rust in areas - however the bore seems to be fine with some frosting and maybe a couple of dark spots. Rampant Colt on left side is "not" visible. Forearm is in good shape, however the but stock has a crack in it which appears to be from drying out. Serial Number is 51210. Asking price is at $1495.00 and I think that is a little high considering the condition. I also have a concern with the screws(rusted to receiver, etc.) and trying to disassemble the rifle to clean it and bring it up in condition - what are your thoughts? Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't pay that much, BUT these are market driven and right now they seem to be holding or slipping slightly in this economy. Had it been in better condition I think the price would be fair. NOT the Most desirable caliber from the collector standpoint.

If I were you, I'd hold out for a better one. For a little more money you can get a lot more rifle. JMHO. It does have a 30" barrel, but.........

Thanks to everyone for their comments. You have confirmed what I was thinking. I was initially thinking that the 30" barrel is very unique, but looking at it - the condition of the entire rifle overshadows and becomes more of a concern than the rarety of the barrel length. I will keep looking for a better example with which I will be happier with in the long run.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.
