    Match Target Rifle

I'm looking at a Colt Match Target Rifle on a private sale. The asking price is $1,800. The owner let me look it over and remove the bolt carrier etc for inspection . It looks like there is no wear (very minor) on the moving parts. The exterior finish is perfect. It has an A-2 stock and fixed carry handle. No flash suppressor or bayonet lug. the receiver is stamped as follows:
    MATCH
    TARGET tm
    MATCH HBAR
    CAL. 223
    SER. CMH 012309

Can anyone give me a heads up on date of manufacture? Does the price seem fair given the excellent condition? It also comes with a Bushnell 3x9 variable scope and a mount for the carry handle. TonyR

Google AR15 serial numbers. It will take you to a post on the AR15 boards with everything you need.

    Re: Match Target Rifle

WallyWorld is getting Colt ARS again. They were putting a 6940 out when I was there yesterday. $1137.

Things are getting back to normal, probably better off waiting. $1800 is still premium panic, pricing even with the scope IMO.

Check the weight. For anything but benching the gun, I'm not a fan of the HBar. It's just too damned heavy, and all the weight is out front, ruining the balance.
Lightness was Stoner's goal, and I'm not fond of extra weight just for its own sake.

$1137 for a 6940 is a GREAT price. Or was it a 6920......I still would have bought it.

May have been 6920. I got my LE6920 right after Thanksgiving and it was $1037

TonyR1, I bought the exact AR last week on consignment in my local Gun shop. I gave $1195. The 1st owner buys guns but never fires them, he had 10 different Colt AR's all in the same safe as double rifles. All unfired. He "cleaned" out some space for something else he bought and took 2 AR's to the gun shop.

I saw plenty of AR's of various brands but few Colts at a gun show today for crazy prices, but I did not see one sell. I had to wait at 4 or 5 tables looking for a scope mount for mine. Folks were buying high dollar magazines but not high dollar AR's.

FYI, I wanted the Match Target Match HBAR. It is a little heavier, but I wanted accuracy and a gun light enough to carry hunting. It is both. I also read that the HBAR is not in as high demand as the more military types with a 16" BBL which should make it cheaper. I also have seen the HBAR listed at $2-2300 online for sale. Too high.

You can go to the Colt website go to Archives and Serial number look up. YOU ONLY HAVE TO ENTER THE SN. Here is your information. It shows year of manufacture,Model and configuration.

    1997 MT6601

"Match Target HBAR, 20"" Barrel, 223 Rem, Matte Black Finish"

Also google all you can on this rifle, Colt set this model up different that the assault types, it also has a trigger block to prevent adding a M-16 auto trigger plus other changes. It is a target rifle not an assault rifle.
    This is an approximate
