Colt Medallion Installation

I have paid so many times to have Colt medallions installed on grips that it would probably pay me to get the special drill bit used to install them and buy a bunch of medallions.

I could not seem to locate the special drill bit that bores the medallions. Anyone know where to get one?

Also anyone point me to sources for buying silver and gold Colt medallions?

I'll play on scap wood until I get it right so I will not ruin any grips, and I do have a drill press.

    Thanks in advance.

I presume you mean the 1/2" flat-bottomed hole that the medallion is set in (the hole drilled through for the rivet should not be a challenge). That would probably best be done with a Forstner bit available from stores such as Ace hardware. JMO

As usual, A1A is right on. Get a 1/2" forstner bit to create the flatbottom medallion hole.

Measure the diameter of the medallion shank and use a standard drill bit of the appropriate size to drill the pilot hole all the way through. Then, use the pilot hole with the forstner to finish (only use the fostner to drill to a depth equal to the thickness of the medallion).

I wouldn't try to stake the medallion like the factory, rather I recommend using some good glue to keep it in place.

Found a source for the gold mediallions for under $7 set, but I really need the silver (or are they nickel) ones. Any ideas where to get about 5 sets? I refuse to purchase anything from anti E-Beg.

    Re: Colt Medallion Silver

The best source for these are broken grips. At the Louisville national gun day, 3 elderly gentleman used to sell these for $1 each. They took them off of broken grips. I can't remember if they still had any.
