Carrying a Colt detective Special, Cobra or Agent

I see from reading a number of threads that a number of you carry the Detective Special or Cobra or Agent as a concealed firearm.

Please let me know how you carry it: pocket, iwb, owb, etc. Also please let me know what holster and grips you are using and any problems you have carrying this Colt.

    Thank you!

    And, happy holidays to all!

I use a Galco pocket holster, a old Moore metal snap on holster, and a generic strap [ Tom Threepersons] holster. The pocket holster is for in town, the strap holster for outdoors under my shirt. No problems so far.

    Hello,
My revolver options are my Cobra pocket carry, pants or coat pocket.
My Cobra has the short Agent stocks.
I've ordered another hammer which I want to bob for easier draw.
I do have an IWB holster I use for appendix carry for the Cobra or my
Magnum Carry. I prefer the IWB carry because of the easy draw. As for problems, lint collects around the hammer, that's about it.
    Sorry no pictures.
    Merry Christmas Tom

i carry a cobra mexican on the right side...

it WAS sporting these aftermarket agent stocks but theyre varnished and a bit too slippery for me. i had to go with the pachys that came on another d frame of mine...

i have a proper set of short frame colt stocks but they didnt come with a screw. after 2 attempts from gunparts dot com, i still dont have a correctly threaded screw for the escutcheon...

i need an IWB holster. i can carry it in just about any of my coat pockets with the agents on board but not so much with the pachys...

here you can see the wear in the finish...

i put a couple of my Ds together. the bottom one has the goodyears...

I just got an Alessi Bodyguard shoulder rig for my Colt Det. Special. Just grab the gun, and pull thru the snap. Very fast.

I carry my 1972 Cobra in my front right pants pocket, in a High Noon leather pocket holster. (I also had my pockets lengthened (deepened?) an inch at a tailor shop.) My Cobra has the shorter grips, combined with a Tyler T-grip. It is currently on a gunsmith's bench getting a Colt shroud installed, and getting an electroless nickel finish. (Pictures to follow.) The shroud will keep the hammer from snagging during a presentation, and the finish will just look nice.

In its absence I'm carrying my 1960 Detective Special.

I also carry a speed strip for a reload. (You're never loaded until you're completely reloaded.)

This is how I get dressed every morning.

I carry a Colt Detective Special in a Gaylord Metro Crossdraw holster on my belt. Works just fine.

If I don't feel like wearing a holster or plan on taking my coat off at any point, i stick the Detective Special in my back right pocket. it's a bit harder to pull out, but it can be done fairly easy

I carried a DS on occasion and used both the later Combat walnut grips and the rubber Pachmayr "Compac".

For the carry method I went straight old school. I carried in a cross draw holster.
Since I made my own leather, I built several different types of cross draw holsters over the years.

Since I liked shoulder holsters I briefly carried in my own variation of the old Stein Holster Co "Snatch" holster.
Since I could carry a far more powerful gun in a shoulder holster, I didn't carry the DS this way as more than a short experiment.

The Stein "Snatch" shoulder holster was a sort of "in between" of the old Berns-Martin upside-down holster and the modern "Miami Vice" horizontal.
It hung butt down with the gun barrel at an upward angle.
To draw, the holster had a thumb break-like pull through with a snap.
To use, you just grabbed the butt and "snatched" it out.
This was a great shoulder holster since it didn't carry the gun upside down and impossible to get a grip on, and you didn't have all the problems of the up-right type shoulder holsters.

I still use a variation of this holster on the rare occasion that I carry my rare S&W Model 66 with the 3" barrel.
