    New SAA owners manual

I actually read the little owners manual that came with my new SAA.
It is kinda funny/strange what is on the first page It says: THis is a Collector's firearm. right on top of the page. Then it goes on to say if you put in and take out shells the value of bthe gun will decrease. If you handle the gun, the value will decrease. If for some reason you actually decide to shoot the gun, you will have an IMMEDIATE and SEVERE drop in value for
the gun. THese are not exact quotes but pretty close.

I read this and it seemed odd and funny that they would go to this extent to explain value loss and it seems WAY over stated.

I got to thinking maybe some lawyer had that put in thinking it just might keep someone from shooting the gun thus decreasing potential lawsuits or then maybe the management put it in thinking hey if 20 % more people dont evershoot the gun then that will also lower our potential for returns if any mechanical problems.
I mean I guess if everyone just bought them and never shot them obviously they would be no returns for any mechanical problems and no worry about lawsuits from someone killing or wouding someone.

If I shoot the gun one time, I cant imagine a IMMEDIATE and SEVERE drop in value that is ridiculous.

The rest of the little manual was allabout WARNINGS,safety and more safety and MORE safety The lawyers must have made a bundle writing this one.
There was a page or 2 about operation but 98 % of it was just renundant warnings and safety stuff.

Yeah It was written by a Lawyer, maybe even two! And did you notice that there was nothing about "Load One, Skip One, Load Four.; Fully Cock revolver and then gently let the hammer down on a empty cylinder". That's because someone once bought a SAA and couldn't count and loaded the gun and then "BANG".

I doubt in today's market that there will be significant drop in Value unless you try and sell it back to a dealer...Of course I know some dealers who will say once the gun leaves the store it's a used gun regardless if it's been out of the box, much much less fired.

I have a NIB colt SAA and I can't bring myself to shoot it so I bought a clone to use as a shooter, the Colt is just too pretty!

I hear ya. I've been thinking the same every time I look at the Colt. And then I read the manual and that reinforced the thought of not shooting it even more.
But, I know I want to shoot it ,so will find some loads this weekend somewhere may even buy the dies ,some bullets, brass, and primers (I allready have the powder). I'll just shoot it with care and clean it after I shoot it. Ill hate it if I put any turn line on it. Kinda like the first scratch on a new car (but Worse).

Actually, on page 23 of the 2008 manual, under "Alternate Loading Sequence", it says -

"After loading first round..., leave the next chamber empty. Then load remaining four chambers. This will position the empty chamber under the hammer when you rotate the cylinder and again see the first chamber you loaded."

I wouldn't have even seen this, were I not an SAA newb, and looking for take down istructions.

Your Right! I was looking at some older manuals and my Peacemaker Manual and didn't see it. Thanks for correcting me.
(But I'm old and senile so correcting is a daily chore.)

For many years Colt regarded the Model P as a collectible, not a shooter. That's the main reason for many early Third Gen actions being so rough, Colt didn't seriously intend them to be fired.
Colt's attorneys actually didn't want them to be used, there's no safety device anywhere & with the original action they viewed the Peacemaker as a lawsuit in waiting.
For a while, part of the reason for the high price on the gun was to discourage the shooting riffraff from buying them.

Cowboy action shooting brought about a significant change in attitude & quality when Peacemakers were actively being acquired to shoot.

    Denis
