Good luck with that. The odds of finding the owner of that gun are slim to nil.
I bought a !966 Python that is in the wrong box. So if you have Python SN 28034 or 28054 (there was a piece of tape on the next to last number could be a 3 or a 5) let me know and lets see if we can work a deal to get them back together. I am not going to sale this to anyone but the holder of one of the two guns listed. If I do not find a owner of one of these guns I will keep it.
Good luck with that. The odds of finding the owner of that gun are slim to nil.
I have a Weimar era police Luger that I recently found the original holster that is unit marked to the gun and is dated 1929!!! So, it just goes to show that anything is possible.
Thats what sucks about someone selling a gun in the wrong box and/or the person who sold you that Python with the wrong box. You see it all day long on GB, AA, GA etc. Sometimes less is more and I would rather have a gun with no box than a gun it the incorrect box or a box serialized to another gun. Many times the boxes are not even period correct. What's the point? People sell a gun stating in box and sell it for a higher premimum just because it has a box but really, that box is useless to that gun. JMO. I agree with rfo1, its like finding a needle in a haystack. Goodluck nonetheless.
Newagesmythie, good for you for posting this thread. While it may be a long shot, I appreciate you making the effort. If more people took the time to do this, the odds of people finding their missing box would certainly be greater!
People that love their guns belong to forums like this, so it's a good place to try; thanks again.

Well, I love my guns too and I'm a member here and I voice my opinion just like everyone else. My point was people selling guns with the wrong boxes and I wasn't bashing him for what he posted. I was just agreeing with rfo1 (his opinion too) and I also offered newagesmythie good luck and it would be great if he did find the gun but at the same time, I was being realistic by saying it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Regards
Mafd2, I'm still scratching my head on your response to my post. I was, in no way, referencing anything you had to say. Just because my post followed yours, does not mean that I was responding to you; I was responding to the OP.
In fact, I agree with your first post/response to this thread. I was simply being supportive and positive of the OP's gesture of trying to connect box with gun owner... Believe it, or not, people can be supportive and positive, compared to others that seem to be defensive and confrontational. Since you brought up voicing opinions, mine is that you should relax.
As a rule, I think it's foolish to be involved in forum confrontations, so this is the last I've got to say on the matter.
Well, from the other two threads that I see I may have started something here. Maybe we should start a section of just trying to get Colt boxes and guns together. (Something for the moderators to think about.)
Thanks to all the responses, but sometimes longshots DO pay off. Or at least that's what people that bet at the horse races say when they play the trifecta....
