Hi,

A friend has a Police Police Positive 38 Special.

The serial number is: 423xxx with the letter L above the last digit.

The pistol is near perfect with very slight muzzle holster ware (hard to see).

The wood grips are great.

It has a 4" bbl and is bright blue.

What edition is this pistol, what is the year of manufacture and what would be a reasonable value.

He would like to sell this pistol that is the reason for determining the edition and value.

Thanks,
Marty

That serial would date the gun to 1934.

Here is a link to the site to look up dates.

Pictures would help a lot with value as original finish is important.

If gun was refinished it would be worth much less.

If the finish is original and condition is as you describe I would guesstimate the value at $400 - $500 depending on local demand. If it has been refinished it is a $250 gun. Keep in mind these pre-War Colt DA revolvers were very high quality in terms of fit and finish. Plus it is chamberd for readily available ammunition. Good luck. JMHO.
