SAA - 2nd Gen Cylinder Work in 3rd Gen Gun

I am looking for a .45 ACP cylinder to install in one of my third generation Colt SAA revolvers. I have located such a cylinder that is for a second generation gun. Will this cylinder fit and work in my revolver? I am aware that a certain amount of fitting will be needed, but seem to recall that some third generation cylinders had non-removeable cylinder bushings. How will that effect what I want to do? My revolver was made about 1993 and has the nonremoveable bushing.
    Thanks!

As you maybe already know, the hands and the ratchet stars on the back of the cylinders are different between 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation guns. Not sure if these differences can be overcome (or are even a problem). I think Colt does offer .45 ACP cylinders for the 3rd Generation guns. Might be the easiest way to go. Good luck.

I have two 3rd gen. 45ACP cylinders that I rotate among my 45 Colts. I got one new from Peacemaker Specialist and the other used online and they are great items to have. I would just look for one online to see if you can find one cheap before looking into a new one. If you can find a 32/20, 38spl., or 357 for a super deal you could then have it rechambered for 45ACP and have more control over the tolerances.

Also if you have one rechambered, you can have it counter bored to accept 45 Auto Rim.

    .45 AP Cylinder

Thanks for your comments, guys. I checked Peacemaker Specialties web site and they list a SAA .45 ACP cylinder for $295. I'll call this week and see if they have one in stock. I've been looking for one on the auction sites and so far none have shown up except for the second generation cylinder which is listed on eBay.

I checked a couple of months ago, and Colt still has some 45ACP cylinders in stock. I think I was quotes about $260 to have one fitted. Don't know if they will just send you one to fit yourself.

    .45 ACP Cylinder

I contacted Colt and they will sell a .45 ACP cylinder but it must be fitted at the factory. The cost including shipping both ways would run around $350 or maybe a little more.
I called Eddie Janis at Peacemaker Specialists and he sold me a used .45 ACP cylinder with a new cylinder spacer (bushing) for $162 including shipping. I can do the fitting myself. Eddie didn't have any new cylinders on hand, but said he should be getting some soon. A new cylinder would be $295 plus shipping.
    Thanks for all your suggestions.

    Buckspen,

If you aren't interested in the 2nd Gen cylinder, I'd be interested in knowing where it is. I have a 2nd Gen .45 that might be able to use it.

    Thanks!

    2nd Gen Cylinder

Cubrock - The second generation .45 ACP cylinder that I originally posted about was listed on eBay. About a day or two before the auction ended, the auction was pulled by the "eBay police". I kind of thought it might be, since cylinders and similar parts have been banned by eBay for several years. So, unfortunately, the cylinder is no longer available there. I did send the seller a note suggesting that he list it on AuctionArms or GunBroker, but got no reply. If I see it pop up somewhere I'll post a note here.
