    numbers......

Oh I know it really is "sweet" but I seriously have NO clue or idea how many were made, the guy I got this from "claims" they numbered less than 250 total, I find this hard to believe,BUT then again, never paid ANY attention or ever heard any "numbers"....yes, have seen them over the years, BUT.................NEVER for sale ,nor the 'data'....(facts)may have to go up to the library and look up the old Colt heritage book, but not sure if this late a production would even be on there..........

    Thanks again

The Blue Book claims 2200. The best of my research say about 1400. I just sold one in the exact same condition with box and all for $2800.
Your DB was made in late 1978 and probably has a birthdate shipdate of 1979. The one I sold was very close to your serial number, depending on your last three digits. HTH

thank you, that seems more in line with what we had remembered....as for prices, we've seen them all over the map and there was one at this past OGCA new, unfired?? in the box,and they were asking over $3,000 ...............yikes, and I thought the Pythons, 2 1/2 and 3 inchers were in that neighborhood...........

That price is not out of line, really. I sold mine to a local big time Colt collector and I was willing to let it go for $2800 because I knew it would end up in good home and stay in his collection, untouched. I had another personal reason for letting it go, but that's another whole story.

Is it just me but it looks like
    the Colts; Diamondback, Python, etc.
    really increased in value more
    than Smith and Wesson.

    Even though both produced
    handguns during the same time
    span.

I can recall back in 1981 or 1982, I could
purchase a brand new, in the box from
a dealer a Colt Diamondback in .22LR, 4 inch BBL,
in Electroless Nickle Finish for a
list price of $280.00, I probably
could have bagained it down to $250.00

Now, I could have bought on that same day
a Smith and Wesson Revolver Model 18, .22lr,
for about the same price, new in box.

    Now today, 2011

What would the price for the Model
18, new in box condition be?

What would the price of the
    that Diamondback be today,
    new in box condition?

    See what I mean...

22 Diamondbacks are superb shooters. IMHO the finest DAs Colt built. Shoot that puppy! Dave

That is a bit low. I think your are thinking back to the mid to early 70's.

2200 6" Nickel Diamondbacks in 22 is about right based on my research. That isn't many. That is about one gun per 182 thousand population in the US. Interesting approach to rarity.
