Hi Colt will Royal Blue the gun for 275 dollars. This is also the best time to have it refurbished and brought to factory specs because they will only charge the cost of the parts and not the 75/hour gunsmithing charge as it is already apart.Looks like you will have a nice shooter for a minimal investment.....Mike

Heck if the pitting is too bad to reblue, Parkerize it for carry.

Best to you and your choice.

no matter what finish you may decide to go for, the base metal still has to be "prepped" to properly do ANY job ( except for maybe a sandblast and a dip in the tanks, get a flat, matte finish), BUT even then, the "pitting" will show....they need to be removed, and as noted above, I'd still send it to Colt, to get a proper evaluation and a cost estimate, they'll know what needs to be done, and price it accordingly..........if they cannot or will not do then you gotta find someone who likes to try and salvage some of those really 'bad' finish guns........when we had our shops we always liked a "challenge" and take on some of these jobs.......

Thanks again. I bought the gun for a very low digit. I will invest what ever is needed to bring the gun back to where it should be. I will ship it out to Colt and let them tell me what needs to be done. At $275 for a blue job, with what I paid for the gun, I am under $600 total investment. I am extremely happy to have a carry Python for that price. The gun has only had about 50 rds put through it. The action is smooth, I put a quick six through it as soon as I got it, no problem functioning at all. Stocks in real nice shape as well, prior owner never carried it. Its a shame he didn't take better care of it.

Looking forward to seeing this gun when its finished from Colt. The Python and my .45 will be my two favorite carry pieces. I need to get a shoulder holster for the Python, like Steve McQeen used in "Bullet"!. LOL!

I like DuraCoat. It is easy to apply and you can sand it and recoat it to fill in pits that are pretty bad.

The pitting might be too extreme for this, but someone just posted a salt water damaged .45 auto that he metalifed. Check it out and the part about what it does when applied.
