My First Handgun. Yes it's a Colt.

Well I've been 21 for a little over a month now and this was at Cabelas just saying "buy me!" http://www.cabelas.com/product/Colt-...fficial+police So today I put it on layaway until I can get my permit to purchase cleared. I managed to get it for $450 instead of $499. The barrel looks like a mirror inside. Hopefully it will be home with me where it belongs in about a week. I checked the serial number on proofhouse.com and it dates to 1941. Totally thinking about getting it lettered from Colt. What do you guys think?

I am by no means an expert on those things, but that looks to be in nice condition for being made in 1941.

Yes indeed, if I am seeing the images correctly, it looks very very ( two 'very' ) nice!

What a great choice for your first Colt.

You will be very happy with it.

Now, to find a period correct Holster for it..!

Good going! It's really great to see a younger guy into old sixguns rather than plasic autoloaders that look like squirt guns. And now that old Colt get's a new lease on life as you spend your life shooting it.

    Nice score,

Welcome to the shooting community. I'm sure this will NOT be your final purchase. Nice pick for the first one.

I have to agree, that is a nice gun and an excellent starting gun for new Colt fan.

Every one I take to the range gravitates towards my Official Police. They are fun to shoot. Low recoil loads in a medium sized frame makes for a fun day shooting.

    Welcome to the addiction.

Now I know how to respond to the young guys in my PD that talk about their Glocks.....Squirt Guns! At least we carry 2 tone SIG 229s and not SQUIRT GUNS.....I HAD a Glock.....got rid of it.......
