    1958 - 1959 python value?

    Hi Gang,

What is the going rate for a 58-59 Python in better than 95% condition with original grips that are as nice as the blue finish? There is no box but the gun is mint, probably the nicest Python I have seen.

    Thanks!

    Martin

No opinions? I bought a 1957 Python almost as nice a few years ago for just under $1500. I thought is was a good deal at the time, but now I see nice 3rd gen Pythons going for more than that. Is the gun in question still a $1500 gun? 2000? 2500? This is the one I own.

I don't have any pics. I am looking for a 4" Python, but if this six-incher is a good deal I would pick it up. Somebody must have bought or sold one of these lately?? I searched the completed auctions, but found nothing. The window of opportunity is closing so I don't have a lot of time to study the comparables.

Nice looking gun... I just bought a 6" Python in Royal Blue for $1,400 that does not have a mark on it. It has the origanal grip's and I don't think that the cylinder has ever been turned. I also did not get a box with it (real bummer) but I think I got a pretty good deal. I know that it is pre "68" but I am not sure of the DOB. Serial number is 71XXX if anyone knows the year of manufactor. If someone knows the where-abouts of an origanal box for this Colt, I would like to buy one. I will send some pics in a few day's. Thanks......

An early near mint original Python like that would sell for over $3000 on Gunbroker right now. A top dealer like Locustfork could get $4000 for it easy. Add a correct box and it will be at $5000!

    Condition is everything.
A few Indy 1500 shows back I purchased a 1959 Python in about the same condition for $1800.00 from a private party walking around with it.
    No box or papers.
He wanted $2000.00, and that was too much for the dealers.
    This last Indy 1500 a dealer had a 1959 in a lesser condition (maybe 80-85%) for $1500.00.
I do believe in any condition (other than just junk), these older Pythons will continue up in value.
The (few) LNIB more so that the used ones.

Thanks for all the words of wisdom everyone. $2000 took it home. Probably not a steal but I have never sold a gun and don't intend to start. I just want to feel good about the deal.

It is really nice. The pics don't do it justice. It locks up tighter than anything I own (and they are all pretty tight). I am looking forward to shooting it. Also a family photo. Thanks again!

I think you did fine with your buy considering there are those out there wanting $1500 for a 1980's vintage ones that are used.
