    Python Question

I have a question about the value of a Python. The Python is a 1976 blue with a six inch barrell. The gun has been fired but not abused. The blue is in good condition with the least bit of holster wear at the end of the barrell. The grips are nice but not perfect. I have seen Pythons of this condition sell in the $1000 range in my area. Here's the kicker, this Python has been drilled and tapped for a scope. This appears to have been done by a gunsmith and is neat in appearance. How much will this deduct from the value? I do not have pics to post and I do not own this gun.

Others may know better, but I'd say shooter grade - fair price would probably be $850 +/-. The problem with this one is that it can't be refinished to make the holes go away. Lots of folks are picking up Pythons in any condition with the intent of sending them back to Colt, so long as it can be made "new" again.

Well It does hurt Value...The holes can be filled, the gun refinished, but a lot of hand workmanship to be done...You almost would have to have the Gun Nickel plated to cover any trace of the holes. BUT keep in mind if it's not perfect the holes will still give a outline through the nickel finish.

I can't offer a "what it's worth opinion" but the holes certainly detract from the value of an unmolested revolver in same condition. If I were in the market for a Python I'd be walking away.
