More Buyers than Sellers for Colt SAA 1st Gens....

This is just my observation, but comparing the inventory of 1st Gen SAA .44-40's and .45's now to this time last year - boy, there sure seems to be a lot less on the market! Has anyone else noticed this or am I delusional?

    Skans,

I agree with what you are saying. I'm wanting to find that one 1st gen or early military "US" stamped model in jam up good condition with no questionable issues and soo far.........I'm still looking. What I am finding are old work horses that look as though they have been used as a tool to put up barbed wire fences. The prices I'm seeing though follow supply & demand. Those larger calibers are fewer and thus fewer of them pop up compared to the smaller calibers. Guess you and I will have to keep looking. After all, that is part of the fun of collecting..........the thrill of the hunt, finding what YOU want in the condition YOU want at the price YOU are willing to give. Keep looking........they are out there!!

Well, at least I've got one, condition is a little less than I'd want, but I've got it. Problem is a Colt SAA is like a bag of potato chips - you can't just eat one even if you know the next one is going to be harder to find and more expensive.

    greetings

I think that there are MORE SA's popping up than ever. With the money getting harder and harder to come by it seems as if more Colts are comming out of the woods.

When I was at the Houston Gun Show this weekend I saw more SA's for sale than ever. With a wide range of prices----$1050 to $3200 for a poor to nice SA 1st gen. The Colt SA dealers were still holding on to their high prices but your average seller (one or two Colt SA's on his table) there were some buys to be found.

I did not see a single High Dollar Colt SA dealer sell anything. Personaly I think buyers are becomming smarter about the prices of SA's and will not pay the high prices. Also most of the dealers will not offer you anything for your Colt SA.

I had with me a 1898, 4 3/4, great bore, 38/40, in good + condition and the BEST offer I had from a dealer was $800 and the Bisley I had $650 !!!!! I ask him to show me a Colt Sa on his table that he would sell me in that price range. Then I got the Ole "I gotta make a profit".

I did buy two SAA's and another Bisley. The price on the Bisley was soo low that I just couldn't pass it. Bought some 1st gen grips and two 38/40 cylinders. The guns are out there---just don't be afraid to make a offer.

I've been there too. I've gotten that old gotta make a profit too, It's nice to make a profit, but I'm not willing for them to make a months wages off me in one sitting. I've been known to ask rude vendors just what makes them so dadblamed much more valuable when they cross from this side of the isle to that side. You'll usually get that deer in the headlight stare. Sometimes it's fun to play with them.
