Las Vegas Antique Knife & Gun Show

Of course the SHOT SHOW in Las Vegas was truly wonderful this year. As always. In addition, there was an antique gun and knife show at the Riviera Casino. Some show.
I saw a beautiful blue 6" Python for U$1600.00. Not that out of line I think. But the two DiamondBacks that I saw were the "best-in-show."
A nice fellow had a nickel 6" .22cal DiamondBack in excellent condition for U$2150.00. He also claimed that Colt made the DB in .22mag but there was none to be seen. Another vendor had a 1-of-500 Colt DiamondBack, factory engraved blue 6" .22LR, new-in-the-box, unfired, with the French walnut box. Very nice indeed. The DB was in fact the 1st of the 500 and he showed me the number. For sale of course. U$3200.00.
There were a ton of pre-WW1 Colt 1911's and WW1 production 1911's, including a North American Arms 1911 and a couple of Singer-Sewing machine 1911 guns. I also saw what the owner/vendor claimed to be the 1st WW2 1911 made by Remington or Springfield, I can't remember, there were SO many. Nicely parkerized in new, unused condition. Ask me what else...

I agree, the show was great and that is why I think it's the number one show to attend. I always find several good pre war Colts to add to the collection and this year I bought five. I spent Wednesday at the Shot Show where I stopped by the Windham Weaponry booth to say hello to Twaits (Eric). It was a great four days.

Well, the Antique Arms Show is strictly old if not 'Antique' Arms...so, very different in that regard from other Shows.

I also went - if only for a little while on all three days, and, had loads of fun looking and searching and trying to decide what to zero in on, and, the few I felt really serious about, by day two when I got there close to closing time, had disappeared or sold or I just plain could not find them again or the Seller had packed up early or one thing or another, so I did not end up getting anything Gun wise.

Heck I was so dazzled with it all, it was hard to think straight anyway...

Wally's show have a Museum Quality to them. In all the years in the past that I have attended, his January Show is the Best..Sometimes the show is so small, it could have been held in the men's restroom.

The Target audience is not the Average Collector who wants a $350.00 shooter. Oh they are there and can be had with careful perusing, but this show is after the BIG $. He usually combines it with the sporting arms show which brings in the big boys from Europe with their double guns; stuff that starts in the $250,000.00 range and goes up.

I have known Wally for many years, even back when he was a publisher, Hell I use to get drunk with his Daughter Rhonda back in Hermosa Beach California.(She was looker back then).

The theme of the shows have never changed. The price to get in has always gone up and I get my VIP pass all the time, but unable to attend these last 3 years.

If you haven't seen it before you will probably see it there. Tom Selleck is usually present along with a few other pro gun celebs. (Don't worry Paris Hilton won't be there). It's one of those shows you need a Dealer package for so you can be there on set up day..A lot of money changes hands before the opening bell...LOL..

I have bought and sold at that show many times and each year I want to go again..I hate the Riviera, it needs to be upgraded something awful. If you can get pass the ugly carpet, (Unless they changed that), and you actually have expendable income to toss about I encourage everyone to go at least once.

I give the same encouragement to the Tulsa Show, it's different but well worth the price of admission.

    Maybe next year...

I have a lot of fond memories of the Vegas show when it was held at the Sahara back in the day. The very first one I ever attended was the weekend when we got involved in the first gulf war. Lots of super guns and some good buys to be had if you kept your eyes open.

The Houston show hasn't been 'all that' for a decade or so ....

not like the old Astrohall days, that's for sure.

Tom was there, we chatted briefly on a Marlin. Julias had Wes Adams guns on display,, very impressive. Paris was nowhere to be found. The dice table was more fun than the gun show. Looks like I will be headed to Maine in March, wish me luck.
