    Colt Cobra Box

I recently bgt. a 1974 Cobra with original box numbered to gun. Should there be an insert colored red with colt insigna that holds cobra in place? Thanks for your help.

Randy1944, if you are able to post a photo or two of your Cobra box (top, interior, bottom serial number), I am sure there are members here that can help you. The style of box that I think you are referring to is one that has been discussed here frequently. Unfortunately, I think it is one that is also counterfeited. Let's see some photos if you can.

If the Cobra was truly shipped in 1974, it would most likely have been in a box that consisted of a wood grain heavy paper shell and a tan styrofoam two-piece insert. However, it could have been shipped in a "left over" brown, red and black box. The shift to the styrofoam boxes occurred in late 1973 to early 1974.

Thanks all for your help. My digital camera is not working right now, so no pictures. The box I have is the brown wood grain and is 9 3/8" long with colt insigna - black bottom with s.n. penciled on the bottom in white. There is no insert in the box. I see red inserts with some boxes and wondered if mine should have the red insert. Thanks again for the help. Randy1944

I think they had some that just had the black bottom with out the red inside. I always thought the ones that were red & black were one piece, (cut out as one piece then folded into the box)

Broknaxl, Thanks for the information. I didn't realize the red inside was part of the bottom of the box. My box has no label at all. Where would the information label been placed. Would there have been an outer sleeve? Thanks all for the information - it helps. Randy1944
