    DS Back from Colt

I sent Colt two Detective Specials back in Dec. for some work and have received one back. This was a used one I picked up last Spring. It was a LE gun used by a detective who I think only shot it to qualify & then put it back into a drawer. Everything was right except I wanted a DAO hammer as I pocket carry mine. I had Colt install the DAO hammer, do the standard clean, lube & verify POA. They sent me back the original SA/DA hammer if I want to convert back. Total cost (not including initial shipping to Colt) was $185 and $30 of that was return shipping. I call that a fair price indeed. Going to try to go to the range today if I can to check her out with my carry loads. Thanks Colt!! Only downside is that Eagle has no "abbreviated" Secret Service grips in stock and the wait is approx. a month. I REALLY love shooting these DAO!!

That's exactly the shape I was trying to duplicate when I bobbed my hammer.

Can you tell me if Colt left it in the white or did they blue the part that was cut off?

Two very handsome guns, I am impressed. I just bought my first DS, a 65 vintage with nickel finish. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! RE; the original grips...I find them a bit too thick and I hate the way the wood makes an edge at the top..has anyone ever had them shaved down for carry?

While I did not do the shaving. The stocks pictured of my DS are the same as yours only shaved and releived for speed loaders.

With the price of these stocks increasing in value I would not recomend doing this to your set, but finding a trashed set to modify.
