Tell me about my 3 in. Detective Special

I've sold most of my revolvers except for a few, and this is one of them. This 3in. Detective Special (serial C444XX) is just a sweet combination of frame and barrel size. It has been my walk in the woods gun on many occasions, and great for old-style plinking. Nevertheless, I have to wonder how unusual this size DS is, and would I be better off with something else and not put any more holster wear on this Colt.
Shut up and enjoy it, or put it away in graceful retirement?
I don't know how rare they are, but I certainly have never seen another one of this barrel length.

Wow, I like that!! It looks like the 3 in would balance just right! I have to ask - where'd you get those grips??

The grips are a huge improvement over the factory stocks and a perfect fit for this revolver. They came from this guy:

Custom Wood Pistol Grips & Handgun Grips, including Smith & Wesson, Colt and Ruger Pistol Grips from Badger Custom Grips

The 3" are somewhat less common than 2", but not really rare. It is one of my favorites. I would say enjoy it. JMO

I would continue to use it as is. It has just the right amount of character to keep going a long while and not lose value. While not rare they are not nearly as common as 2 inch barrel length. Don't dismiss the value of the original stocks though, keep them with the gun.

What "Searcher" said. Less common but not rare. I own several and love them. I think they balance and shoot even better than the 2 inch guns. By all means continue to use and enjoy your Detective
