    Question on 1968 Python

Looking at a 2 1/2 inch nickel Python with the original wood and a set of "mother of pearl" stocks. The guy bought the grips when he bought the gun in 1968
but not sure if they are real or fake. The back of the grips have the #28 and several colt pythons listed. My assumtion is they are aftermarket and probably not real. The original wooden stocks are perfect but any information on the others would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    gary

If you are asking how to determine if they are real MOP stocks here goes -- heat a pin red hot and push into the back of the stock panel. If MOP it won't go in. If plastic it will melt a small hole. Be sure to do this on the back of the stock panel where any scar won't be seen when the stocks are on the gun. Hope this is what you wanted to know.

Usually Jay Scott marked the backs of their grips like that. I don't know if they made any real grips or not. Are they backed with wood? Real pearl grips will probably not be flat on the back and won't be backed with wood. They will usuallyhave some concave areas tat are from being made from real shell. These are fake pearls shown below.

I will look at it today but that is what i suspect they are. The good new is the original service grips have never been used on the gun
