    Today, a Black Powder Whim...

Found this attractive little piece in a gun store that is out of my usual path of travel -- an 1862 Police second generation, No. 52347, five-shot .36 cal. Doesn't seem to have been fired, but it has been manipulated a bit. There are some micro-scratches on the barrel and a hint of a turn ring. Has the original box, too, but not the papers. :anger:

I've been thinking about a modern BP Colt for some time now, but I thought I would probably end up with an 1860 Army or maybe a Dragoon of some sort. But this one was too appealing to turn down when I took a moment to hold it and look it over.

    Sigh. Another slippery slope.

Nice gun David. Those 1862s have some of the sleekest lines of any of the old Colts.
I really wanted this cut down 1862 that was auctioned of at Poulin a year or so back. I think it went for something like $1700 though

Hello, DCWilson. IMO the little 62" police was one of the nicest looking of all the Colt percussion revolvers. They were the detective specials of their day. Since the deed has been done..meaning slight finish wear..might as well go all the way and enjoy shooting!

These really are beautiful Colts. A .36 made up on the .31 frame was a good idea for some compact firepower-a real blast to shoot!

That is nice! I've been contemplating getting one for awhile. I saw one not long ago for under $300.00 - I passed, but after some thought went back and as usual - it was gone!! It had everything with it too. Nice piece you got there.
