My First Handgun. Yes it's a Colt. (UPDATED NOW WITH MORE PICTURES)

Well about a week ago I posted about putting a 1941 vintage Colt Official Police on layaway at Cabela's. On Thursday after getting my Permit to Purchase I rescued the old Colt and now it has a new home. Here are two pictures I took. It looks better in person my pictures don't do it justice. For 71 years old it's in real nice shape. There is some holster wear and some minor scratches but the bore is bright and shiny. It has a small Y stamped on the left side above the rear of the trigger guard. I was wondering if anyone would know what that means?

Very nice, now you'll have to let us know how she shoots. Sure can get some good deals if you go pickin' through some of Cabelas' used guns.

Nice gun. I've scored some nice stuff at Cabelas.
Can you post a close up of the "Y" that's stamped on the triggerguard web? I don't think I have seen that mark. The only mark I have seen there is a little "3"

The Y is an assembler's mark. I've seen Bs, Js, etc. Opposite from your Y on the left side front trigger guard bow is the VP in the triangle stamp, Colt's Verified Proof mark which appears on all Colt handguns.

Nice pick-up kid, these Colt revolvers are addictive mate, you will not stop at just the one.Nearly forgot, they are extremely fine accurate shooters. I have a 1941 vintage OP but in 38-200 quite scarce,
one of the most accurate revolvers I own. Its also Australian martially marked. Enjoy your revolver.

Beautiful gun, great investment and fun to shoot too. Keep her clean and dry and keep buying Colt's. 20 years from now when you look back at all your Colt's and what they are worth in 2032, you will have an enormous grin on your face and a huge pile of guns worth a LOT of money. Congrats you are infected!
