Colt Custom Shop work or not on Python???

I've been looking high and low for a reasonably priced Python and found one that might be "the one." This firearm is NIB unfired and was reported to be purchased new and some time later sent back to Colt to have the trigger and hammer jeweled and timing adjusted. It was also gold filled in the lettering as shown in the picture. There is no paperwork to substantiate that it was performed by Colt. Buddy of mine that is very knowledgeable suggested that without paperwork it would be a very dicey to purchase so I am inclined to pass.

Question is this, would the custom shop keep records of the work that they did if I have the serial number or would I be looking at the same process of sending off for a letter from the Colt historian that I assume would only detail the way it originally left the factory and have to wait months for an answer? It is $2200 so I don't want to gamble too much on it. Appreciate any feedback.colt python 1.jpgcolt python 2.jpgcolt python 3.jpg

First time trying to post pictures so pleases excuse the size. I'm attaching the photos as well.

It is my understanding and has been encountered by other members as I recall that Colt does not keep records of work done after market by the Custom Shop or at least they are not retrievable. A letter identifies the way the gun left the factory. Lots of people did jeweling and the gold fill in the lettering. Gold fill Laquer-Stiks are still available from Brownells. Unless and perhaps even if it were done by Colt, the configuration is IMO less desireable than plain original. JMO

You will get a piece of paper listing all of the work done on Colt letter head though.

I can't say for sure, but that just doesn't strike me as something Colt would do. I may be wrong. But I wouldn't give the price qouted for it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "all of the work done".

Anytime I have had them do anything, I get back an invoice with all of the work they did.

Thanks for the replies. One would think that the invoice or some receipt from Colt would be saved if someone went through the time and expense of having the work done and hold onto it without shooting. I'm going to pass on this if I can't get validation from Colt and it appears that is the case.

I also doubt colt jeweled the hammer and trigger. Hopefully its inwards aint screwed up. Still, whats the price? Still might be worth it.

Aha! I was still relating to an archive letter piece of paper with a letterhead. Yes, it is a good idea to save any Colt invoices for a possible future sale.
