    colt new frontier 22 info

IMG_0598.jpghello all, just joined this forum today....I purchased a colt new frontier at the local swap meet today of all places and I am wondering is you could share any info you may have: Colt New frontier .22....roll marked "new frontier .22"
serial # G2254xx...has cross bolt safety and all blue frame...6 inch barrel with adj. sights.....I read where this could have been a later production model because it is all blue (not cch) and has the safety. thank you.

The full blue version of the New Frontier 22 GS series was the last of the line, circa 1985. The cross-bolt safety model New Frontier 22 came out in 1982 and these were CCH/blue guns. The full blue version ended the line with a total of about 6400 produced. The 6" barrel version was about half of the number of full blue guns produced. This a pretty small number as far as production, but these guns don't seem to attract a lot of collector interest. They are very good shooters, but I'm surprized that yours has fixed sights. All of the New Frontier 22s came with adjustable rear sights - that's what makes them good shooters. If yours has the Peacemaker 22 style frame, that would be very unusual, but I suppose that anything is possible. The GS series w/cross bolt safety were all 22 LR only. Even though the earlier G series New Frontier 22 Mag cylinder will fit, the barrel on the GS series guns is NOT bored for 22 Mag.

Enjoy your new Colt. Post a photo so the rest of us can enjoy looking at it!

Here's my New Frontier Buntline 22 GS series, full blue:

Proofhouse only lists the G series - which went through 1977. If yours is an all blue gun, it was made in 1985.
