leather covered Colt Peacemaker book hiding a SAA 44-40

Does anybody have any info on this book/hiding spot? Story I heard was that it was prototype for possible production, but there are absolutely no markings other than what can be seen on the cover. Pages inside are real individual pages with no printing, they are sewn together in the binding, but have apparently been glued somehow. Very well constructed not cheap in any way, but I have never seen another.

I think that I remember these being sold back in the '70's or 80's. Not a Colt product, but some commercial firm. I have something similar that I made myself by gluing the pages of a thick book together, then hollowing out the inside and lining it with felt, for a Detective Special hideout. Not nearly as fancy as yours!

Python, that is very cool! I am now considering gluing and hollowing out an old law book, to hide a gun inside it.

Best to elect the most boring Title possible...Accounting or College Alebra or social science or something, that way, no one is ever going to try looking at it when you are not around.

Constitutional Law (making sure the book opens to a Second Amendment area) or Modern Judicial Remedies (the gun is the remedy), vintage late 1970s are the leading candidates to hollow out. I am the only one who ever touches my old law books.

Does anybody have any tips on glueing the pages together before cutting? Which glue to use? Glue between every page? How many spots of glue per page?

A quick check on eBay for "books for hiding" showed several styles for sale.. A few looked like they would serve the pupose.. Good idea!

I have not looked on eBay, but I recall seeing some firm that actually made a business in the 1980s of doing to "real" books what is being suggested here. Perhaps the eBay books are similar. Seems like it would really be tedious to glue every page to the next page. I assume the cutout is made after all the pages are glued together, either by a jig saw, end mill or router. Since bound law books are now worthless, all of the obsolete law libraries would provide enough books to conceal about every handgun in circulation! It might take a "coffee table" book of major size to conceal a Walker!

Collects, would you keep such a book on your desk, just to be handy for the occasional client who is reluctant to pay? (I keep a .45 on a barrel bracket in the knee hole of my desk for that purpose.)
