Sapp had errors and omissions that to some folks made his book not worth purchasing. I found a copy at a garage sale for $2 but rarely use it for reference. It has some value I reckon but certainly isn't on par with Wilson's TBOCF or one of Ayoob's books.

It does have some purdy pictures though

I don't like it. Way too many errors and mistakes to be considered a reliable reference work. Save your money unless you can get it for 2 bucks.

In fact, almost all the information is lifted word for word from the Gun Digest Book of Gun Values, and much of that information hasn't been changed for 20 years.

Some glaring errors make it less usable and no effort has been made to correct.
One of the worst that I noticed just looking at the book in a book store is the entry on the Colt Border Patrol. The description is for the very rare 1950's Border Patrol issue model, but the picture is of the 1970's Mark III version. I couldn't find any entry for the 70's Border Patrol.
This may lead the inexperienced to think they have a super valuable original 50's Border Patrol when in fact they have a much less valuable Mark III version.

If you can find it used at a good discount it might be usable as reference that you can double check with more reliable sources.

Awful. I might buy it for $2 for some of the pictures. Even some of them are mis-captioned.

dfariswheel has it right. I had some contact with one of the editors at Krause Publications and tried to get them to change some of the information listed about the Frontier Scouts. No response. They really don't care about the quality of their books, all they want to do is sell them. Two bucks is about the right price for this book.
(I also did some work for Krause on the 2009 edition of their annual Book of Gun Values and they never paid me for it. I'll never buy another one of their books, ever!)

Yup, loaded with painfully obvious mistakes. I have it though. The pictures are good.

Bought it, regret it! Got it years ago. It's as everyone has said.

Pretty photos, but an unreliable reference book.
