An N under the serial number is an inspection stamp IMO. Some factory nickel revolvers (Diamondbacks in particular) have an N stamped on the grip frame and that is taken as an indication of factory nickel, although I have never subscribed to that 100% (let the evidence begin). Indeed, let's hear from the Diamondback experts. I bet they'll ask for pictures.
