    Model 1878 value?

I have this Model 1878. It is a 32-20 with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. Serial number is 48665. Looks to be all original. Colt letter says it was sent to George Tritch Hardware Co. in Denver Co. in 1902. Can anyone ball park value for me? Thankyou in advance, Tom.DSCF4481.jpg

Nice gun. I'll always wonder why they made such a large gun in such a small caliber though.

Nice looking gun with some finish left and a good shipping destination. Caliber is usually less since folks want the big bores. I will say $1200-$1500. Regards.

Denver shipping point and a fairly rare caliber in the 1878 makes for a hard to find piece. You could always put it on the forum at a listed price or gunbroker auction and let the 78 collectors duke it out.

i have been looking to buy one and the prices seem to be $900 to $1200 in that or a little better condition and in a larger caliber. There is already a 78 (large cal) listed on the forum for $1200 and has not sold. just no demand for the "78"s" in a small caliber.

It is not what it is worth---it is what someone will pay for it.

Thanks everyone. I looked up the proofhouse site and found that there less than 1000 made in 32-20. Thought that made it more of a rarity piece. I see that there are big bores for sale, I haven't found a 32-20 for sale on the web. I don't have a gun value book, but am thinking about keeping this gun anyway. Local gun guy told my it was a good gun to have, so I'm happy. Again, thank you.
