Just bought my first Colt...my first revolver

    Greetings fellow gun lovers,

I recently spotted this 1970 Python at my LGS and instantly I knew I had to have it. For me, there is no sexier gun than this. Someone had just pawned it less than a week prior. The LGS put it on hold for me over the weekend. I went home and did some research and found out how to inspect the action and make sure it is functioning properly, which it was. The gun has two tiny pits on the barrel and mild pitting on one part of the cylinder. The grips, which I also did some research on, appear original and are in beautiful condition. Came with a box and a warranty card, manual, and the test target with matching serial#, although I'm not sure if the actual box is original (although I was told it was). Hopefully those knowledgeable about boxes would comment.

Interesting note........inside the box the original seller had written "$205.00 with holster" on the inside of the box.

I have not fired the gun yet......It is nice just to hold it and admire it's beauty.......although I plan to soon. I am not a collector so this will be a shooter. I was successful haggling down the price $100.00. Curious what those knowledgeable about the Python market think would be a fair price for this one.

    So, questions from this newbie:
    1. Is the box legit?
    2. What would you pay for this gun?
    3. Any pointers on care/handling/shooting (it is a nickel gun......I am aware not to use certain cleaners/solvents)

    Cheers

That is a purty revolver...I like it. Should have serial number on the underside of the box.

    Welcome...

Beautiful, I just bought a 4" nickel recently, yours is nicer...

    Box says "Colt Blue"...

I hear "not" to use Hoppes #9 on nickel...

As noted above, the serial number should be on the bottom of the box. From what I can see this box looks correct. I think the little white sticker noting Nickel finish is correct. I would guesstimate that is about $1700 (maybe more) worth of Python these days. Good luck.

Thats a very nice "first" Colt!!! Yes, the box says Colt blue. but they put the sticker on it stating Nickel Finish. Thats the way Colt did it. Now that you've got a very nice start, you can start looking for a nickel 6in, 8in, 2 1/2in and the ever so elusive (and expensive) 3in.!!! I'd say it's worth close to 2k in an Auction, if not more -- Would probably sell quickly for $1,600.00 t0 $1,700.00

I had never looked at the back of the box. Thank you! Indeed, the back of the box has the correct serial # written large with a grey/white marker.
