New Frontier 22LR/22Mag, 6" BBL, Appears Polished Nickle, S/N L13xxx

Hello. I'm "brand-new" to the forum. Thanks for having me. My "new-to-me" subject Colt has me pretty excited. Can anyone share any info as to the "mirror-like" finish, and any other info on this jewel of a revolver. Thanks in advance for any info. PS: Would Colt answer such questions without charge via telephone?

    Welcome to the Forum.

The "L" series New Frontier 22s were blue with a CCH steel frame. Colt's didn't offer them with a nickel finish as a regular production gun. Anything is possible, but it may also be a re-finish. The only way to know for sure is to get an archive letter from Colt's.

Post a photo and the Forum experts can tell you if they see a re-finished gun.

Don Wilkerson in Colt Scouts Peacemakers and New Frontiers in .22 Caliber (1993) on page 166 notes there were a few special ordered guns with Nickel finish. He also notes that a distributer had some guns Nickel finished after the guns left the Colt factory (these will not letter as factory Nickel finsih). While your gun just might be a factory original Nickel finish, in all probability your gun has an aftermarket finish. Be interesting to see some good closeup pictures.

    Welcome to the forum.

Check the sticky on the photos forum. Tells you how to use Photobucket.

welcome TBird. I agree that you would have to buy a Colt letter to find out what finish it left the factory with. Colt will tell you what year it was manufactured by the serial number over the phone, but they don't have quick access to grips/barrel length/finish and where it was shipped to without the purchase of the letter. I've never gotten one for a .22 Scout,Peacemaker, or New Frontier so I don't know the charge for those. (prices vary per type of gun) I did find out yesterday that a diamondback is $75.00 for letter.. off subject. Buckspen is another resident expert that has seen about every variation and will surely offer up some info when he sees your gun. I thought I had found a rare scout buntline dual cylinder the other day, but these guys quickly proved otherwise and put my mind at ease. (darn it)

T'Bird, try taking some pictures with the Macro setting on your camera, they should be in better focus.
