    .44 New Frontier 5 1/2

New member here..Just ordered one of the new run New Frontiers in 44 special.#47 of the run. From all I've read online, quality should be outstanding. There is a great review on gunblast.com. Any info on accurate loads would be appreciated.I will only shoot lighter loads in it as I have a Smith 44 mag for the big loads.Any other info about these would be great.

The classic 44 Special load concerns a 240 gr keith type lead bullet backed Unique powder (check the Lyman manual for details or look up "Skeeter Skelton 44 Special").
A good "cowboy" load I like concerns a 200 gr flat point propelled by Trailboss powder. Hard to do anything dangerous with trailboss and a little care.
I want a NF just like yours but have yet to find one for retail or less. I'll wait.

I blew up a 3rd gen SAA with a light load of 700X. It was back in 1989 or so. Very much liked the load until that happened...still a bit of a mystery. SInce then, I am fond of a powder that fills the case more and am less fond of loading below manual specs.

For fun shooting I use Trail Boss. For serious stuff I use IMR 4227. I like a gas checked 205 gr semi wadcutter, but have used the Speer 200 grain hollow point designed for the special. Excellent cartridge.

That Keith load is a favorite of mine out of my 5 1/2 SAA. It is plenty powerful sending out that bullet at about 900FPS. A 2 handed hold is suggested to keep the plow handle from climbing out of your hand. It exceeds current SAMMI specs. but has long been loaded with no issues in modern guns. Winchester 231 and a 240 grain lead bullet at 750 is also a very pleasing range load that can be shot one handed. 4.1 grains bullseye and the Keith bullet gave me a 1 7/8" 5 shot group at 25 yards.

For mild fun shooting, I use commercial cast 200 grain round nose flat point bullets and medium charges of Trailboss. I've fired many thousands of them. Easy on the shooter and the equipment. Devastating on steel plates.

I haven't bought any in years, but I have been impressed with their quality in years past, when I did a lot more reloading.

Just got the NF yesterday--what a workof art.Went and shot it today with a few handloads.Seemed like it liked 200 gr RNFP with 5gr of reddot. The chamber throats measure .429 and those bullets are .431.Might it shoot better with .430 instead? When I cleaned it, the chambers were super dirty--didnt seem like lead just took a long time to clean.
