Colt started stamping the Single Action Army's and Bisley's around 1905-1906. I imagine all commercial 1911 Government's were too and none of the military M1911's and M1911A1's were. Not sure about the other revolvers.
I just wanted to know if the VP was on all Colts or only during some time periods?

From about 1903/1904 to the present.
Are you talking about the VP in the triangle? If so as I understand it, it is a mark indicating that it has been test fired at the factory. I hope I am right on this if not someone please correct me.
"Verified Proof" mark consisting of the letters “VP” enclosed in a delta or upside-down triangle
+1 CJS57 "From about 1903/1904 to the present"
It is present on my 1941 Official Police also
Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. It is not on my older Colt SAA.
