alright colt buddies dont laugh at me too much but i just traded for a remington that has these markings. barrell-e.remington&sons ilion,n.y. u.s.a. undre grips is number 289.its a model 1888 .44 center fire they say its a transition model. only 500 were made while remington was in bankrupcy.what i need to know is what to shoot in it or were i can get some ammo for it. i assume its black power.and i promise to trade it for a colt before to long thanks for any help you can give

I too would love to see it. I've never heard of the model. It sounds to me if Remington only made 500 of them its too valuable to risk shooting at all. But that's just my opinion. If your plan is to sell it anyway and buy a Colt you should perhaps have it appraised and move it down the road to a Remington collector. I bet that gun would make somebody's day!
