"Here is my story. In Nov 2005 the doctor told me I had stage 4 throat cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes. I was a Deputy Sheriff at the time, and I had a really nice colection of Colts, Smiths, and Browning. The doctor told me I only had a 30% chance of making it thru the surgery, and if I did I probably would not make a year."

Glad you're still here with us.

Thanks, I'm doing great and still go to the pawn shops in the Mesquite area. Had a call today on a trooper mkIII 4" blue that was maybe 97% wood grips. They wanted $630 which I was thinking about untill I noticed somebody and put their D.L. number at the bottom of the frame under the cylinder. Otherwise I think I could have gotten it just a little cheaper.

There are eight up on GunBroker right now, and the one with the $699 "Buy-It-Now" price looks very nice to me. If your standards are higher than that, then the search will take longer, although I think there were a couple of near mint ones in the collection of about a hundred exceptional Colts that sold earlier this summer.

All the ones I have seen on GB are ok. But this one was 99% and the grips looked like they were just made. I cant blame him for keeping it.

Buy the best one up now, have Swamprat refresh the stocks and then enjoy the gun until a better one comes along.

with my pawn shop guys it's kinda a mixed blessing. The owner collects Colt 1911s. His second in command collects any 1911. So I only get to see what they bought, which will never hit the display case. But they also aren't fond of the smaller caliber auto's, or revolvers. So I do get to see all of them. I've picked up some very nice Baby Brownings with boxes and pouches in the 200-250 range. Walked out the door with a remington model 51 LNIB for 240. I'm just waiting for that Python to show up. I'll keep going back. I'm patient.
You know that feeling you get when you lean too far back in a chair? I feel that way all the time.

Yep, I have had "Exactly" the same thing happen to me in both Pawn shop and Gun Shops. I had one tell me that he saves the Colts for the "Big Time" collectors in Houston. Another one said that He only sells them on Gun Broker where the people pay "Crazy" prices.

I told them bout "Thanks" for telling me as now there will be no need to come bact to their Store.

had similar encounters - tend to avoid those establishments. have a couple in the area that I visit once in awhile since the owners are more straightforward. sometimes have decent items. however, if not careful as buyer and especially seller at many of these places, one may get skewered in more than one way. I find it unfortunate that some find pleasure in taking advantage of someone (i.e. buying something at like 10% of value and celebrating). I realize the individual should do some research and know approx value but really...

actual example - at one place where I have a friendly relationship with a worker (not owner), there was a decent Cobra at $399 (was told owner bought it for less than $50). I passed...
