Colt Officers Model Target 32 colt

A local gun store just put out a Colt Officers Model in 32. I have a 22 and a 38 and I am quite interested in this 32. I understand these are relatively rare. It is a 98% gun (I had to look close to see if it even been fired.) It came in with a large collection of Colts. The price is $1399. Does anyone know how rare this gun really is? Whats your opinion on the price? Thanks

    Welcome to our Colt forum.

What's the year of mfg.? Is the gun mint, boxed and with all the box contents? If not, it's too pricey.

If you're patient I believe you can pick it up for less than a grand, maybe less than $700 (for 95%+ condition, no box).

IMHO, you need a .32 cal.

If you can find the .32s for less than $700 then let me know as I'll buy them all day long. Around here you are lucky to see even one and when you do they are around $1200. I was lucky to get one from one of our forum members.

Sorry, didnt bring the serial number home with me. However-no box and no paperwork. Its as close to mint as it can be. My husband actually told me to buy it if I want it that bad-but I would have to sell some other revolvers to make up for this. If it were closer to $1000 I wouldnt hesitate.

    Hi,

There were only about 850 of these ever made, and virtually all of them are HB models from the very late 30's and 1940. A disproportiate number will be found ANIB, often with the test target. The reason for this is that the Mass. National Guard bought a bunch of them, never used them, and sold them to a distributor in the 70's, I think it was. When I bought mine, 10 or 12 years ago, if you were lucky you could indeed get one for under a grand. No longer. The figure you quote is pretty much par for the course, and will go up. Just look what's happened to K32's.

    Best,
    Bill

It would be nice if you could get him down a hundred or two, but that is about the going price, and if it's as nice as you say, you may never see another like it.

    I would deal!

They are much more rare than a K-32. Plus, most of the K-32s are post war and the workmanship does not compare. BUY IT! Ask if they will do a layaway? You deserve it.

Can't let you get away the "much more rare than a K-32" "fact"!

Nope-just 94 pre war K-32 Hand Ejector Target Models were built, and are one of the "holy grails" of semi modern S&W collectors.

The fact that "several hundred" .32 Officers were sold as surplus by a Mass. agency in the 1980's,including some to J&G Sales in Arizona,is also proof.

While a "rare gun",they certainly aren't in the 10K range for a NIB one,or 5k for an Excellent pre war K-32.

Post war K-32s are "rarer",but other than a few "parts guns",no .32 Officers were built postwar.

Wish I'd bought one of the "shooter grade" .32 Officers that J&G had reamed to accept .32 Magnum. By fitting a 32/20 Official Police/Army Special cylinder,I'd have a "pre war convertable .32" to go with my 1990 vintage S&W M-16-4.

Re: Colt Officers Model Target 32 colt

The real point of my comparison with the K32 (yes, very few pre-war, more postwars than the 850 OMT .32's) is that medium frame .32 target revolvers are scarce in general and in ever greater demand. By the way, I paid 700 bucks for mine, ANIB with target and cleaning brush. Those days will never come again.

Thanks LoneWolf, I was loosing sleep wondering if my advice was perfect or not and met your approval. No wonder I don't respond to this Forum much. Is my spelling ok? I should have said, they are more rare than the Post War K -32s.
