Hi Lawman67,
I have two MKIIIs, a six inch and a four inch. A six inch was my first service weapon in the late 60s, and I love em. The four inch is my primary carry weapon.

With prices of Colt da revolvers going through the roof there is still one series that can be found at bargain rates . The mark 3 Colt's never got the respect they deserved and for that reason can represent a collector's good fortune . While the actions never rivaled a Python's, their accuracy did. If you you know how , they can be slicked up pretty well . The frame size is perfect for 357 and can handle magnum loads forever . I found a mint Trooper last year for 275, a Lawman for 250 and a nib Official police mark 3 for 219. I have an older 2 inch which I used to carry and still do on occasion . I also found an early Lawman with some muzzle wear but mech fine for 150. I will probably pick up a 6 inch Trooper at some point . Will bet I can find one in the 450 range. Due to optional finshes and some variations such as 5 inch Official Police models there is enough to spur collector and shooter interest. Get em before someone finds out what a bargain they are

I sold a MKIII nickle offical police 5 in. to a friend with the deal that he has to sell it back to me if he ever wants to get rid of it. I believe he will make good on the deal but I don't believe he will sell it either. It is a perfect combination of pointablity and shootability. It fires some real warm .38s with great ease.
Nice guns . like the later model grips on the 4 incher . you could do a lot worse , but not much better for a carry gun. I sometimes pack a 4 inch Lawman or Trooper out in the woods .
I've got a Trooper MKIII 6" .22. The action is super smooth and it's extremely accurate. It's a great gun.
I paid $160 for it used about 15 years ago.
I wonder why they haven't caught on like some of the others have ?
I had a 6 inch Trooper 22 and foolishly sold it. It was heavy for a 22 and at the time the 22 Diamondback was available for about the same price and was much lighter. Always liked the look of the Mark 3 over the Mark v.
Prices on the 22 Mark 3s are going up but nowhere near those of the 22 Diamondbaks. As the DB gets more collectible, the prices of the Trooper 22s will also . there seems to be a lot of variation . I have seen mint 22s for 400-500 and as high as 800-900. bargains are still out there . The average one for sale today was under 300 when new.
Please bear with me as I am New to this Forum. I have been searching for info on the Trooper MKIII series. I just found a nice 4" 38 Special one that I had the dealer put on lay away for me. Price was $310. It shows some muzzle wear on the blueing (probably from being put in a holster) but I really liked how it felt in the hand. I'm hoping it is a good shooter. Just ordered "Colt DA Revolvers, Vol II" so I can see how this works. With Python and Diamondback prices out of sight, I agree that the Trooper, Lawman, Metropolitan series of revolvers may well be the best deals on Colts out there.

Not many were made in 38 spl. I remember seeing one . I think most were for police that needed to issue non magnum revolvers . Nevertheless it will last forever with any 38 spl . load you put through it .
